Situated just 35km south of Barcelona in the Spanish province of Catalonia, Sitges is a world-renowed tourist destination, attracting gay men and women for more than a quarter of a century. Its prime location in a sheltered spot on northeastern Spain's Mediterranean coast ensures that Sitges is bathed in sunshine for more than 300 days a year

Formerly a quiet fishing village, this now prosperous town has long-since been a haven for artists and intellectuals, and began to attract an increasingly cosmopolitan gay and gay-friendly crowd in the 1960s. Its open and tolerant attitude towards gays and lesbians has resulted in an abundance of gay-oriented businesses, including numerous bars, discos, restaurants and shops, together with a wealth of homo-friendly hotels, apartments and guesthouses.

However, unlike many other gay destinations around the globe, Sitges is more than just a summer resort. Throughout the year the town offers a full range of cultural events, including the world-famous Carnival festivities in February or March, Sitges' very own local festival, Festa Major, which takes place in August, and a widely-acclaimed international film festival in October.

In addition, over the last few years Sitges has gained a high reputation amongst the Bear community, playing host to not one but two major events for Bears and their admirers - the annual International Bear Meeting BSC in April/May and Sitges International Bear Week in September, both organised by Bears Sitges Club.
